Vintage Blog

About 3 weeks ago we joined Instagram, just to see what it is all about and to give it a try. So far I can tell, there are a lot of cute dogs but even more things that nobody really needs. Two days ago I stumbled over something that really rubbed my the wrong way. A mental health professional from Australia posted a really funny reel about knitting. At made me giggle at first but then I read the caption. There they wrote a wall of text about addictions and with the reference to the pictures she had posted along with her text, she basically put knitting in the same box like alcoholism, gambling addiction and drug abuse. Seriously?
Every major addiction like alcoholism, drug abuse, multi tox, gambling addictions etc. (I think we can happily ignore the classic gummy bear addiction and the common coffee dependence) are highly destructive on so many levels. They will destroy every little aspect in your life. Physical health, mental health, friends, family, job, everything
People started knitting about 300 AD. It’s a very productive and creative skill. It’s also a survival skill. If you ever suffered from cold feet, you know exactly about what I’m talking. People knit all around the world and make all sorts of things. Besides that, knitting is very relaxing (there is nothing more peaceful then sitting in your favorite spot, knitting something, with a purring cat or a snoring dog curled up beside you). Knitting has healing values and therapeutic values and yet this shrink puts it on the same level as alcoholism and drug abuse. She clearly has no idea about what she is talking.

Recently we joined Instagram, just to give it a try. So far I’m not impressed but I’ll give it some time. So there are people sharing Amazon hacks, like they do on YouTube. You know, the latest stuff you have to order and how to get free things. I personally stick with my own Amazon hack. It’s very simple and very straight forward. I didn’t renew Prime when it was running out this summer and I stopped ordering. There are maybe just 2 things left that I still might order there, but all the regular stuff comes from elsewhere now. Sorry Amazon, no more money from (and much more money for me in addition to much better customer service and no more garbage products. And it wasn’t even hard. I just needed to stop being lazy. For example Ami’s food, before I ordered it at Amazon (plus shipping regardless of Prime), now I order it it at local online pet supply dealer (same dog food, just cheaper, less shipping and it arrives on time). My Vitamins, before from Amazon, lesser quality, plastic bottles and I believe some had shipping fees too (regardless of Prime). Now I order at Sunday Natural, premium quality and NO plastic *happydance*. The package/packaging material is completely made from cardboard and their bottles are made from glas. Shipping is free when I order enough, else it is a small fee. The list goes on. The only things I still order at Amazon is my Swiffer Wet 4 times/year (for some strange reason it comes at the best price) and sometimes a diamond painting set.
I don’t miss Amazon one bit and I’m much better off without it. Who knew that stopping being lazy would be so much fun and so rewarding.
