First Pair of the Year

First pair of the year. The yarn was not my favorite, the colors are kinda odd and the quality is so lala, but whatever, yarn is yarn and not to be wasted. But you know, people always just talk about the yarn, but the needles are as important. I started knitting in pre computer times (and only 3 TV channels which only broadcasted for about 12 hours a day). At that time we where kinda limited on yarn and needles. I lived on the country side, so I was even more limited. There was like one brand of needles and just very few yarn variant. Patterns? Ya, there where pattern books, but they where soooo boring and yes, you guessed it, very limited on fresh ideas. No surprised I kinda wandered off as soon as computers became a thing.

Nowadays things are different. We have a unlimited range of yarn, needles and ideas/patterns (and TV channels). You want to learn a new pattern? No problem, just hit YouTube. You need new needles or yarn? Hit Amazon. There is so much to pick from, it’s like knitting heaven. When I started knitting again I tried a lot of different needles. Cheap metal ones and cheap bamboo ones too. Of course I kept looking at those very expensive needles on Amazon and wondered if it would even make sense to spend so much money on a set of needles, after all they are just little sticks with pointy ends on both sides. After a month or so I gave in and ordered one of those very pricey sets (not to get you confused, a set of sock needles, which is called Nadelspiel here in germany) just to figure out what they are about and omg I’m so glad I did. They make such a difference. I would have never believed it, but ya one stick with pointy ends on both sides is not like the other stick with pointy ends on both sides. The loops don’t get stuck on the needle and they do not slide off by accident. The tip is kinda magical, it grabs even the most stubborn fiber with accuracy and ease. I wish I would have spend that money right at the start, would have saved me some frustration about lost loops and stubborn fibers. I you are new to knitting, consider to treat yourself with a good set of needles, it’s really worth it.

Magic Sox

My recent sox project. Why magic, you ask? Well, if you ever played World of Warcraft, you would know that these are the colors of the Kirin Tor, the guys in charge of all things magic, and arcane magic (I always played frost, but I loved the pink of arcane which I could never wrap my head around). These sox will give you + 100 coziness, +50 toastiness, +150 cuteness. The pattern is called Mine Craft Pattern by the way which adds even more comfiness. New socks project . . . actually, no, it’s kinda an ancient project. I started these in spring this year, got sidetracked, like always, and kinda forgot about them. Well, end of the year, time to finish up all lose projects. I love knitting socks. It’s fun, relaxing and kinda cozy. The material for a pair of really good socks costs less than a pack of cigarettes. As soon as you got some practice you can finish a pair really fast. Socks are really useful and everybody needs them (maybe except those who live in the south). You can make them for yourself (and believe me, if you had handmade socks ones, you never ever want store bought again), gift them to friends and family, sell them or give them for charity. You can binge your favorite shows or listen to an audio book while knitting. It’s basically like a bonsai vacation you can have every day. Have a pawesome day and be safe out there. ❤

Tiny Doggy Sweater

Tiny Sweater for Mr. D the Chihuahua

I got sidetracked . . . again *le sigh*. Last night my friend told me that she would love some warm winter cloth for her tiny chihuahua Mr. D. and we where wondering if I could either knit or crochet some. So this morning, still on my first coffee, I went and looked for a tutorial of some sort. I found a really really pawesome one over there at Twin Star Hooks . For the yarn I used a German brand and I had to adjust the size a bit since Mr. D. is very tiny, but it was super easy and super much fun. You bet, I’ll do some more of those. And I can’t wait to check out her other tutorials. Well, off for some more crochet fun or so. Have a pawesome day and be safe out there. ❤

No Plastic Wanted

Cute Pill Bottles

I hate plastic! I avoid it whenever possible. I don’t buy plastic containers or other things made of plastic, I even go so far not to buy food items that are wrapped in too much plastic. And yes, I got rid of all my tupper ware, may it rot in hell! Plastic is just evil and not healthy, neither for us or our planet. I always go for things made out of natural materials, like glass, metal and wood. For almost every plastic item there is a environmentally acceptable alternative, you just have to look and sometimes get a bit creative. And here is one example:

Beside of eating healthy I’m totally into vitamins and food supplements just to make sure my body gets everything it needs. There is Vitamin B12, Vitamin E, a vitamin depot for people 50 +, hyaluron, extra stuff for hair and nails, iron, zinc and pumpkin seed oil. You can imagine, that’s a lot of boxes and bottles and it’s easy to get mixed up, beside of the massive clutter. So I was looking for one of these pill boxes where you can put in your daily pills for an entire week. These things are nice, you keep track and everything is tidy, buuut all those boxes are made out of plastic. I searched local stores and Amazon but nothing than nasty plastic. I don’t buy plastic things, so no pill box for me . . . until the day I found these tiny glass bottles at our local dollar store (well, it’s not really a dollar store, we don’t have those here in germany, but it comes pretty close to it). Inspiration bit me and boom my pill box. Environmentally friendly! And cheaper then the regular plastic things.
