About 3 weeks ago we joined Instagram, just to see what it is all about and to give it a try. So far I can tell, there are a lot of cute dogs but even more things that nobody really needs. Two days ago I stumbled over something that really rubbed my the wrong way. A mental health professional from Australia posted a really funny reel about knitting. At made me giggle at first but then I read the caption. There they wrote a wall of text about addictions and with the reference to the pictures she had posted along with her text, she basically put knitting in the same box like alcoholism, gambling addiction and drug abuse. Seriously?
Every major addiction like alcoholism, drug abuse, multi tox, gambling addictions etc. (I think we can happily ignore the classic gummy bear addiction and the common coffee dependence) are highly destructive on so many levels. They will destroy every little aspect in your life. Physical health, mental health, friends, family, job, everything
People started knitting about 300 AD. It’s a very productive and creative skill. It’s also a survival skill. If you ever suffered from cold feet, you know exactly about what I’m talking. People knit all around the world and make all sorts of things. Besides that, knitting is very relaxing (there is nothing more peaceful then sitting in your favorite spot, knitting something, with a purring cat or a snoring dog curled up beside you). Knitting has healing values and therapeutic values and yet this shrink puts it on the same level as alcoholism and drug abuse. She clearly has no idea about what she is talking.
